A Countertop, River Rocks and Oak Trees, Part I

Espresso treble clefs.

. . . leveled with segments of paint mixing sticks.

Backerboard, edging and rocks

More rocks

My favorite rock

My salad blending into the countertop.

I rounded the corners, so we'll be okay when Genevieve and Jacoby are tall enough to bump their foreheads.

  2. What kind of coating did you put over top of the rocks? My husband and I are doing this to a dresser that I am turning into a kitchen island and didn't know what kind of coating to use.

  3. AquaMix Sealer's Choice Gold. It's important to put a couple coats of sealer on the stones before grouting (and polish off excess sealer as the bottle's directions recommend or it'll leave a cloudy coating). Without sealing first it's very difficult to remove the haze from the rocks after grouting because riverrocks are somewhat porous. Also if the dresser top is wood, don't forget to add backerboard or the wood could expand with seasonal changes and loosen the installation.
