I was sure I hadn't left a big hole in the side of the house when we painted a couple years ago. Here's a link to a video about carpenter bees. They drill round holes into houses and live inside walls! They have big stingers. Maybe I better not put caulking in their entryway because they might prefer to chew through plaster (into Athena's room) rather than through chewy caulking to get back to the outdoors. At least we know what they are now.
One of my coworkers insists that these guys are doing no harm and that I should think twice (and read Wikipedia) before caulking them. . .so I think instead of caulking them I will get one of these and fly it around in the backyard to scare them off the premises:
